MENU	John Ellingson is a native Southern Californian. He was raised in Downey, and graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 1968, with a degree in Business Administration (marketing). He attended the University of San Diego School of Law until called to service in the United States Army. Following active duty, including service in Vietnam, John returned to law school. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1974 and was admitted to practice in California and the United States Federal District Court the same year. For five years, John practiced for the law firms of Carter & Gorgen in Santa Ana, and Shepphird & De Graw in Huntington Beach. In 1979 John joined the firm of Howser, Gertner, & Brown, in Newport Beach. 	In 1985, he became a shareholder of the firm, now known as Howser & Brown. John has experience in family law, civil and business litigation, real estate law, and business transactions and formations. In recent years, John's practice has emphasized family law. His family law experience includes litigating and settling disputes involving child custody, child and spousal support, and property issues, including the characterization and valuation of businesses. His legal experience in other areas of law helps John advise his clients concerning real estate and civil law issues related to their family law cases. In 1997, John became a Certified Mediator. Although he continues to represent clients in litigation, John believes mediation is a faster, less expensive, less contentious method to resolve most disputes, especially in family law cases. Please view his article regarding mediation. When not working, John's recreational interests include golf, racquetball, swimming, hunting, fishing, and theatre. His theatrical endeavors include amateur stand up comedy several years ago, and recently he has appeared in local community theatre productions and television commercials. John has been married to Karol since 1981 and they live in the Irvine Community of Turtle Rock with their house cat, Blue.
